I’ve been creating a book since my daughter was born 3 years ago. It seemed the natural time to take this project on, given I couldn’t get out and about with my camera as I used to.

This is turning into a labor of love and pain, I’m learning a lot about the book creation process. Curating the images has been very challenging, trying to remove myself from the memory and emotions of the images taken. I’ve learned a lot in the discipline of not thinking every single image I have settled on is the best. I have tried to pick the best of the best.

I’m not a natural writer either if you haven’t already guessed! So I’ve written little haiku poems to accompany each Gallery of images. Which i really enjoyed and fitted so well.

I aim to have the book finished in the New Year, new year new book!

Printing

I think because I lean more toward the fine art side of photography, I feel that printing is the ultimate termination point for my photographs. I’m learning how to print at home.

My favorite paper to use are fotospeed’s Platinum Baryta and Smooth Cotton. I’m enjoying black and white printing on these papers.

My goal is to be able to provide high-quality prints for sale, from this website early next year.

This upside-down photo of a spring morning at Rydal Water (The Lake District) is one of my favorites from this year. I will be printing this shortly and framing it for my house!

It was exactly the shot I wanted to capture that morning. The lush greens defused in the watery reflection. With a hint of the traditional slate Cumbrian house and a pop of kitch colour in the Japanese maple tree. I love it.

I want to challenge my landscape photography work and look for more unusual viewpoints or perspectives on the wonderful scenes before me.

I also like to play with ICM and multiply exposures but these I need to practice more, very interesting formats to explore, I have not created anything I feel is good yet. But I love a challenge and will keep trying to perfect the shot!

50mm Obsession

I just love this lens! Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM

It really unleashes a whole world of creativity. The versatility of this lens also means its more often then not my go to lens.

I use it for pretty much every situation from people, places and close up details.

I’m still perfecting shooting wide open, with the shallow depth of field but the beautiful dreamy look and feel makes me keep coming back to f/1.2 no matter what the subject is .
